Ingredients of Bengali-Style Mutton Curry

  • 350 gm mutton
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp mustard oil
  • For the curry:
  • 1 tsp mustard oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1-2 black cardamoms
  • 1-2 green cardamoms
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 2-3 dry red chillies
  • A pinch of sugar
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger, chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic, chopped
  • 1-2 small potatoes, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp haldi
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • Ghee, as required
  • Green chillies, as required
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Water, as required

How to Make Bengali-Style Mutton Curry

To make this mutton curry, first we need to prepare the marinade for it. For this, wash the mutton pieces nicely and then combine them with yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, and mustard oil in a bowl.

Cover it and refrigerate it for around 2-3 hours. Once done, heat oil in a kadhai and add a cinnamon stick, black and green cardamoms, dry red chillies, bay leaves, cloves, and a pinch of sugar.

Mix well and add chopped onions. Fry them until they turn golden brown in colour. Add the chopped ginger, garlic, and all the maslas and continue frying.

Now, add the marinated mutton pieces along with the potatoes and cook for 5-6 minutes. Add water, cover the kadhai with a lid, and simmer it for 30-40 minutes.

Top it with fresh coriander leaves, slit green chillies, and a drizzle of ghee. Serve hot and enjoy!
